FAQ’s

What is Solxis?

Solxis is both an artist and a royalty free music library.   Neither Solxis nor any of their tracks are registered at any performing rights organization (PRO) or copyright management organization (CMO).  Therefore, the user should never have any financial obligations to any rights society from using the music.

*** DISCLAIMER – the Solxis Royalty Free Music Library does not offer any legal advice.  If you have any questions about royalties and performing rights organizations as respects the use of any music including that found at solxis.com, you are strongly encouraged to contact the organization(s) for your respective country directly.

What styles of music are available at Solxis.com?

As of late 2020, there are over 1,000 tracks in a wide range of styles.  There is everything from very calm spa/relaxation music to the most intense/upbeat fitness tracks.   In between is jazz, chillout, lounge, holiday, dance, cinematic, Latin, world, jazz, Asian, Middle Eastern and more. Feel free to visit the Listen sub-page at Solxis.com where you can hear full tracks from every album.  Additionally, under the Music sub-page at Solxis.com you will find some more 30 second sound samples for each individual release.

What is royalty free music?

Royalty free music is music that is created by artists/composers who do not wish to join/be a member of the traditional royalty collecting societies/organizations.  Instead of collecting royalties through these organizations, royalty free artists arrange for direct licenses between themselves and music providers/music users. These licenses are generally non-exclusive.  Sometimes royalty free music is referred to as non-PRO music.

Is royalty free music the same as Creative Commons music?

Creative Commons music is music available in the public realm, and there are several different attribution licenses depending on how the author of that music wants to be credited.   Certain types of Creative Commons music cannot be used at all for commercial projects.  One of the main aspects of creative commons music is that the author gets the proper attribution/credit.  Creative Commons music is generally available in the public sphere, and does not cost any money to use.  Royalty free is not actually free (no cost) music.  As per the above, it is more that the artist and the songs are not registered at any performing rights organization/society.  Royalty free music is generally acquired through a direct license from the music creator and/or their representative.  The music available at Solxis.com is royalty free music, NOT creative commons music.

If I would like to use a Solxis track in a student film or other type of non-commercial project at no cost, would Solxis consider letting me do so?

Absolutely.  Even if it is a commercial project like a documentary or awareness piece, Solxis is more than glad to look at your request on a case by case basis.  Feel free to email requests to solxismusic@gmail.com

What if there is a genre of music I want/need, and I do not see it at Solxis.com?

While there are now over 1,000 songs in a wide range of genres/styles, Solxis is always planning out new releases.   Feel free to email those requests to solxismusic@gmail.com  as there are always new varied projects in the works.  Solxis also holds back unreleased tracks for special projects and exclusive licenses, so it is possible that there are existing tracks in that genre, but they have not yet been released.

Is the Solxis catalog available for purchase for personal use?

Yes, but it is not the main way the Solxis library provides music to the general public.  The Solxis Royalty Free Music Library is more intended for commercial use – like in background music systems and for placement in film/TV/videos.  However, if you would like a particular album for personal consumption only, you can email solxismusic@gmail.com and can arrange to pay for a single album download.  Each album is generally $5 and cannot be used for commercial purposes, just personal listening/enjoyment.  All of the music at Solxis.com is digital download only, none of the tracks are available on CD or vinyl.

What file formats does Solxis have available?

The catalog is available in WAV, MP3 320 kb/s and MP3 128 kb/s.   By special request, Solxis can potentially provide AIFF or FLAC files.

What are the different ways to license music from Solxis/The Solxis Royalty Free Music Library?

The Solxis Royalty Free Music Library is known for their flexibility and works in a variety of ways.   The music can be licensed by individual track, by the album or by the entire collection.   Here are some options:  A) Revenue Share – in this model, the music user will compensate Solxis based on a percentage the Solxis music is used compared to overall music use.  This could be monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually.  For example, if a music provider spins 1,000 tracks a month and 100 are those by Solxis, Solxis will receive 10% of revenue reserved for artists.   In some cases, Solxis will license based upon number of locations using the music (this is generally for in-store background music).   B) Annual Access Fee – in this model, the music user will be charged an annual, renewable access fee.  Generally, this is for unlimited use of the entire catalog, but there are instances where if a music user/provider wants to pay less for a smaller portion of the catalog (for example fitness or relaxation music only), that is certainly possible.  C) Lifetime Unlimited Use – in rare instances Solxis will license out the entire catalog of lifetime unlimited use.  This is the most expensive type of license, and may be presented with the current track roster, or include future tracks as well.

In all three of the above cases, please note the user is NOT receiving ownership of the actual track, master recording or the copyright.  The music user is just receiving the right to license the music for their business use(s) and/or to their customers/vendors/partners.

I am a music service and/or music library.  I would like to be able to license out (sub-license) the Solxis tracks to my customers.  Is this ok?

Depending on the license between yourself/your company and Solxis, this is certainly possible.  Please make sure you advise Solxis if you would like this type of arrangement so fair compensation can be arranged for all parties.

Is the Solxis catalog available at places like Spotify and Pandora?

While some Solxis tracks may have found their way to playlists, most Solxis tracks are not available for streaming at places such as Spotify and Pandora.  The Solxis tracks are more intended for commercial use, like for companies who provide background music for public spaces and other libraries who provide music for use in videos and films.

Does Solxis provide metadata for the music?

Yes, the Solxis Royalty Free Music Library keeps a detailed spreadsheet containing metadata including ISRC codes, genre, album, BPM (beats per minutes) for all tracks and keywords/moods for much of this music.  This information is available upon request.
